As the owner a web development and consulting firm, I've often been asked why we didn't have a blog. I always had a quick answer: "It takes too much time and it's something you have to keep up with, there's no 'set it and forget it' blogging feature." In small business oftentimes the owner is the wearer of most hats; the customer service specialist, the product developer, the bill payer, the list goes on and on. With all of the day to day responsibilities that comes with owning and running a business, the last thing I wanted to make time for was a blog.
While that was always my main excuse, there's another excuse that isn't always voiced but my clients express it as well. Sometimes it is just hard to start something else, something new, or something different. The saying goes that "going from 0 to 1 is the hardest step." This is so true in our day to day lives. Getting off the couch to work out the first time is much harder than after you've got the momentum of a couple workouts under your belt. The same goes for things in business that we know we need to be doing. The first blog, the first newsletter, the first website - those can all be daunting tasks. Sometimes we don't know where to start or how to start and those can be big parts of our excuse to stay at 0.
What we don't think about, though, is how much easier it is to go from 1 to 2, especially when sitting at 0. A goal we have set in our company this year is growth and with that growth it is time to start a few things we have set aside the last few years. A blog is one of those things, and what you've just read is our 0 to 1. We're excited to have you along for our journey and look forward to offering our expertise and information to grow your business, or finally take that step from 0 to 1.
